Eat Your View – Sunday Road Trip

There’s something about fresh, fresh produce that infuses my world view with hope and a life-is-good attitude. It seems important to put my pocketbook where my soap box sits, so I’m making a point to search out and support the retail businesses of local farmers.

Jones Farm is down the road a piece, in Chelmsford, Mass. We were surprised by the fields of vegetables bound by power lines – but this reminder of urban encroachment only serves to emphasize the family-owned farm’s commitment to their livelihood.

The farm offers lots of their own vegetables and berries for sale. In the refrigerator: locally produced  dairy. And grass-fed, free-range meats are in the freezer. Jones Farm also offers CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares.

The Greenhouse Cafe was a tad too warm for lingering, so we took our espresso drinks outside where there were two comfy garden chairs available and waiting. Delightful! And perfect for snapping a few photos for the blog.

Nothing feels as good as stocking my fridge with fresh, local produce and cage-free eggs. The swiss chard was grown on Jones Farm and gave my Green Lemonade a new flavor twist. But that will have to be another post.

As an ardent fan of alliteration, I’m thinking I could give Friday blog posts a new thematic title: Farm Friday. Thoughts? Farms to recommend for my Sunday road trips?

  1. Love the idea of a Farm Friday! I totally agree with your sentiments that there’s something about fresh produce that infuses the world view with hope and a life-is-good attitude.

  2. Farm Friday sounds totally yummy! Have you hti the farms over in Litchfield? Some of my favorites.

  3. Alison Taylor-Brown

Definitely need to visit Foundation Farm outside Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They offer a five-month course in organic gardening.

    When can I expect you?
