Summer Joy

Isn’t summertime grand? I just love the extended hours of daylight and the simplicity of warm weather attire. (Like paying a visit to the garden first thing in the morning — in my pj’s!) Fresh flowers for the table is a bonus!

For those of you who might be interested, the table runner in this photo is a creation of mine. In a past-life-chapter, I studied weaving at Haywood Technical College in western North Carolina. Afterwards, I developed a custom table linens business with place mats and runners designed to coordinate with my clients’ dishware and lifestyle (no whites for families with small children!). This runner was made with a leftover warp from one of those projects. The colors work for my lifestyle, too!

The wife of Swedish artist/author Carl Larsson, Karin, has long been a personal inspiration. Her handwoven domestic textiles are evident in many of  Carl’s paintings and an important element in his illustrations about their family life.

I guess you could say that I am a big fan of handcrafted and functional.

All “creative arts” which include “writing”,”poetry”,”singing” “painting”,”photography”,and various” sports” ,and “hobbies “like “gardening”, “cooking “are like various paths and worship of works are prayers to bring subjective and objective together for creative enlightenment.
    bless you….

  2. Interesting to visit your blog again after a hiatus. I didn’t realize that Carl Larsson’s wife was a textile person. I’ll have to look at his illustrations more closely. The Scandinavian Store in Ballard in Seattle is full of Carl Larsson items.
