garden daze

These gorgeous blossoms kept me company and made me smile while I added compost and worm castings to my garden beds. There’s something about spring’s return of perennials that rings my maternal bell.

New additions for the season are tomatoes, sweet red pepper, cleome, ivy geranium, mandevilla, pansies and violas. Volunteer morning glories have popped up all over the place and I’m hoping that they will thrive in spite of some relocation.

Next on the planting list are: eggplant, basil, rosemary, tarragon, another peony — pale pink this time, and my reward for manuscript completion, and a “razzle dazzle” variety of echinacea that has flowers in the most delicious deep pink.

  1. Lovely peony. I stopped planting morning glories because they volunteered so wildly and after a few years turned purple instead of blue. I miss them, though, and keep looking for the right spot.

  2. I love your peonies! Mine popped over the weekend. Big bushy pink petals. I’ll have to get out there and photograph them before the storm hits and carries them away. I love the sound of your garden. Please post pictures.
