Productivity Tip

cuppa joeThe question was, how to take my writing productivity to the next level? I know how to velcro my tail to the sofa and disallow myself from getting up until I’ve written the self-assigned number of words or spent the pre-allotted amount of time at the keyboard. But I was looking around for something new. A different approach.

girl-writing-cartoon.jpgAlthough I’ve enjoyed many an idle hour curbside at Parisian cafés and paid for more cups of café au lait than I care to admit, such is not the makings of my life right now. However, knowing that it is best to “bloom where you are planted”, I wanted to come up with a more local alternative to a similar scenario.

Ingredients desired: 1) a nice beverage; 2) chair and table at good typing height; 3) appealing background music; 4) people traffic must be fairly light and not distracting; 5) within 10 mins. of home.

I am pleased to announce that I found a coffee shop that meets all of the above requirements and that this week’s writing production is up! The novel progresses. And if by some miracle a trip to Paris falls into my lap I’ll waste no time getting my Euros in order for many chapters’ worth of café au lait, too!

P.S. regarding internet connections at off-site writing spots – I know myself and if there is the option to check and/or write email, I’ll be tempted. Best to park myself at coffee shops where I cannot log on without a subscription, which of course I don’t have.

  1. I couldn’t agree with you more. I find the Internet distracting when I am trying to write. I keep a list of research questions going in my journal and after I feel like I’ve run out of writing mojo, I head home and complete my research.
Awesome find. And three cheers for surprise trips to Paris and cafe au lait at home in the meantime.
